Relaxing Black Hair
Having curly black hair is a bane to many of us. Constantly dealing with the frustrations of the kinkiness that is quite common. Many resort to relaxing the hair, which is perfectly fine. There are a few things you want to keep in mind when going through relaxing methods
Watch out for re-perming or using different products on top of things you have already used. Many chemical relaxers use different chemical ingredients which may not go well with each other, this causes bad breakage on your hair and can result in a serious cut.
If you are looking to completely remove the natural curl from your hair, that is fine. There is a catch though; only relax it to such a level if you are keeping the hair short. If you are keeping the hair longer you want to make sure that you don't go beyond about 80% maximum straightness. The more you straighten the hair, the more elasticity you lose. When you lose all the elasticity from straightening then you end up with severe breakage and shedding.
You can relax your hair at home but you have to be very careful. Make absolutely sure that you have removed all the relaxer from your hair. Wash it three or four times if you have to. What ends up happening is a process called residual chemical action if you leave even the most trace amount of chemicals in your hair. Basically this means the chemicals continue to do the work causing weakened roots and breakage.
That last thing to keep in mind is, avoid relaxing straight after braids or extensions. These cause minor cuts in the hair cause weakness. When you put the relaxation chemicals into the hair, you end up with so much weakness that your hair will fall apart.
Relaxing your hair is perfectly acceptable and can open up additional possibilities with hair styles. Make sure you pay attention to what you are doing and, if possible, pay a professional.
