Kinky Twists

Kinky Twists are one of many popular black hair styles, but recently the popularity of the Kinky Twist has grown dramatically. In this articles we'll cover the basic braiding techniques required to do kinky twists. Obviously we can't cover all aspects of a braiding style in just a few steps. Mastering the kinky twist braid requires you to not only fully learn about the kinky twist but to practice the braid as well. But this articles will at least cover the basics of the kinky twist braid which should be enough to get started.

First, you need to determine how much weave you are going to need, if any. Most black beauty shops and salons carry a variety of different kinky hair textures. You simply need to decide which texture matches best with your type of hair. You're going to need 2 or 3 bulk packs of strands. Of course if you're natural hair is already at the desired length you won't need to purchase any extensions.

Next you need to remove oil, gel, or any other product from your hair so that the person braiding can firmly grasp your hair. To do so just wash and rinse your hair throughly. Avoid using conditioner because it can leave your hair greasy making it hard to handle.

Next you need to groom the hair into block parts along the scalp, and hold them together using pins. Place a strand of hair in the part of the blocks and hold them together with a pin. Now take 2 strands and place them in 2 of the blocked parts.

Begin braiding with 3 strands, pulling one of the strands to the shortest of the 3 strands in a micro braid. Start twisting all the way to the end of the strands using 2 strands at a time.

Keep twisting until all the strands have been used or until you've decided you've used enough weave. Each part should vary in size slightly for a more natural look.

Follow these 5 steps and you should be ready to take on Kinky Twists without a problem.
