Black Hair Breakage

Breakage and shedding is a common problem with black hair. Breakage causes stunted hair growth and prevents hair from reaching it's natural and beautiful potential. Many different things can cause this hair breakage from too much combing or brushing to poor nutrition. Black hair breakage is not natural and anyone suffering from this problem needs to make sure they properly diagnose the issue and take the proper steps to promote healthy hair growth.

Things to look out for when trying to diagnose hair breakage include rough hair even when wet, hair that feels week and will not withstand even being combed, or pieces of hair just seem to fall off whenever you touch it. These are serious signs of breakage and you want to make sure you begin moving towards health hair with a few different methods.

The first thing you want to focus on is cutting out the chemicals. Anything you use whether color, texturizer, or relaxers all weaken the hair further. So, cut them out complete while you are trying to revitalize the hair.

Avoid any styles that tug at your hair. Tight braids or cornrows, glued in extensions, or anything involving hard gel should be avoided. These all bring added stress to the hair and weakens it.

Stay away from heat. Black hair is dry and heat sucks what little moisture is there, out. You can also end up with fried hair that is so weak that it is impossible to repair. When it gets to that point, you have no choice but to cut the hair.

Keep a close eye on any shampoo products that you use. Many shampoos on the market have sulfates, silicones, alcohols, or glycols. All these chemicals extract moisture or prevent moisture from getting back into the hair; so avoid at all cost.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! The problem with breaking is caused by natural dryness in black hair. Make sure you moisturize a LOT in order to keep healthy and full hair.

Remember to keep a close eye at your hair. If you have any problems with breakage take care of it right away. Remember that it is not natural and is not just a fact of life.
